Interestingly I can still upload pictures to the new blog and put them here via HTML. While this blog will not be continued due to the ridiculous inconvenience HTMLing will cause and the Trip Report Index of each series will link to the new blog, I’ll post the rest of Kyushu Karnival here as well as the new blog just for completion’s sake.

Yufuin was one of the places that I originally didn’t feel like going to. It didn’t seem as intriguing as Aso, it was smaller, and it was f*cking close to Beppu, so I wasn’t a fan at the start.

I really have no idea where to start with Yufuin. On one hand it exceeded my expectations and was a damn charming little city, on the other hand it’s ridiculously touristy.

At the Hoteiya, like at the Seikai, we had dinner at the hotel (which was part of why the package was so damn expensive). Now, before I start all my raving, let me first rant about the absence of child meals. Out of all that was sold at the hotel, my sister only managed to eat the sashimi, the rice, and a few other things. 😦

Dinner was served in-room both nights, and while the most memorable night was the second night, the first night was also pretty awesome.

My 2015 bucket list

Earlier this week Lucky published his 2015 bucket list, though he only talked about the festivals he wanted to visit.

While I haven’t planned far ahead yet (and still have a tiny bit of travel to do this year), I do have a little travel planned for next year, and I figured I might as well share it.

Phuket

This is a confirmed trip. I’m flying with a friend (who came with me to New Zealand back last February) down to Phuket most likely in Thai’s business class, and we’re staying at The Bell Phuket, which we booked on a package.

The hotel we would stay at for the fourth and fifth nights were very hard to decide. I actually wanted to stay at the ANA Crowne Plaza Kumamoto New Sky, since I also wanted to acquaint with IHG (and cross off two hotel chains in one trip). However my mother wanted to stay near Aso, and wanted us (me and my sister) to experience the ryokan life my mom and dad had visited some 20 years ago.

I really wanted to stay at the Irifune Aso, which looked modern while cultural.

However the Irifune Aso was out for the nights, and TripAdvisor #1 ryokan Sozankyo wasn’t nearly as nice as we’d hoped (apparently HK$1000 per person doesn’t seem like high quality to my dad)

First impressions of Mongolia

Ni hao from the Air China Business Lounge Beijing!

I was in Ulaanbaatar a bit for some work, and as my agency doesn’t have a dorm in Ulaanbaatar (hell, I didn’t even know Ulaanbaatar had clinics), I stayed at the Ramada, which my agency paid for. The joys of not working in Hong Kong, Beijing or Shanghai… 😛

I’ve spent a day or two off in other cities after work, including Tokyo and Shanghai, and even my favourite city, Hanoi.

But I did the same in Ulaanbaatar, and bloody hell, Ulaanbaatar was just surreal.
