New Singapore SilverKris Hong Kong Lounge Open

Singapore Airlines has had a mediocre lounge in Hong Kong. It was dark, and didn’t have any views of the tarmac, and what we could do in their wasn’t much either.

Travel season ends for me…

My travel season is pretty much over for the year. Next time I see an airport, it should be February next year.

We don’t go anywhere for Christmas (my dad’s job), and I’m still a schooling student, and I’m a good student who looks for at least a 100% attendance rate, and…

First pictures of Qatar’s new A380

Qatar’s new A380 has been delayed for quite a bit. In fact, Akbar Al Baker went as far as to blame Airbus three times in one interview about the Qatar A380 and their delays, and we were disappointed that Qatar weren’t adding private villas to the plane given how long they were delayed for.

Well, contributor QatarA340 just shared some pictures of the newly arrived at Hamad International Airport A380.

One thing I noticed were the slightly unpleasant pink seats in economy and business. I thought Qatar’s 787 red-black colour scheme was awesome, as coming together it seemed spicy while not too flashy. While Qatar’s A380 pink-black colour scheme is even less flashy, it’s less spicy as well, so I’m not a fan. Both classes still look really comfortable, so I’m not that sad about it.

Otherwise, I think this is a wonderfully configured A380 (though First does look a little less private than hoped), and I really hope to see it in service soon (and possibly fly it if they start making fifth freedom routes DOH – BKK – HKG like Emirates and all others). However given the amount of time used to make it it is a little disappointing…

Singapore Airlines Economy Transit Lounge Access

I’ve flown Singapore Airlines twice, on their A380 and the 777-300ER in their okay-comfortable economy.

Singapore Airlines is now offering lounge access for transit economy passengers through Singapore, but in a slightly twisted way.

China Eastern A321 Economy Class

When I booked a PVG – HKG – PVG – HKG mileage run (one run each day this time), I figured I had no way to get to Shanghai before my “doctor’s meeting” up there. To mix things up (I already had three Dragonair legs…I’m having my meeting tomorrow, flying to Hong Kong on KA 897 tomorrow night and doing the second run on the same airline the next day), I booked China Eastern, one of the three million Skyteam airlines China has. Of course, as only HX and FM codeshare on the route, I had to book Economy as cash was the only option. I took the earliest available flight, which was to Hongqiao Airport – right next to my office and dormitory, so no problem for me.

I did the China Eastern leg this afternoon, and while a full trip report is yet to come, here are my general impressions:

China Eastern A321 Economy Seat

While the site mentions this flight as an A330-300, it’s actually run by an A321 every day, so be prepared.

China Eastern has a rather solid economy seat on their aircraft. I’d say it’s comparable to Dragonair’s old A320 economy, but with better padding and recline.
