I’ve recently been looking for a place to go during Chinese New Years. I think I’ve mentioned once or twice that Phuket is currently number one on the list (though we’ve been thinking of Chiang Mai and Pattaya as well), as we’re thinking of just having a rest near some white sandy beaches.
I’m unhappy to say that given the flight times and my schedule Colombo won’t be added to my list, but at least I’m excited to say that Cathay will launch a flight to Colombo four times a week.
To be honest, after all these pictures Colombo moved to my bucket list…
For Sri Lankan passengers to Hong Kong, the flight times are ideal. However, should I be given a choice I wouldn’t land at 11pm at night in Sri Lanka (though I see some good hotels that have a chance of opening/will open, such as the Sheraton Colombo, where we can chill for an extra night without me complaining).
While Cathay apparently has served Sri Lanka for over twenty years, up until October 27th, 2014, they have never had and never will have direct service to Colombo. Cathay plans to launch their A330-300 (with their international product) to Colombo, the same products the planes I took to Singapore and back carried.

The flight times are:
CX 611 HKG – CMB 20:10 – 23:30 333 1___5__
CX 611 HKG – CMB 19:50 – 23:10 333 __3____
CX 611 HKG – CMB 20:30 – 23:50 333 _____6_
CX 610 CMB – HKG 00:45 – 08:45 333 _2___6_
CX 610 CMB – HKG 00:35 – 08:35 333 ___4___
CX 610 CMB – HKG 01:05 – 09:05 333 ______7
While the CX 611 times aren’t really nice for leisure Hong Kong travellers, the CX 610 times are (they are nice for Sri Lankan travellers too, actually – all the flight times are), so I hope SriLankan under a Cathay Pacific codeshare starts their own flight that takes off in the morning from Hong Kong so it can match our times better.
This replaces the HKG – SIN – CMB flight. Meanwhile the HKG – BKK – CMB continues operations with schedules unchanged, but Cathay upped them to A340s. Yay…?
