For the next night, as we decided to use the night and the next morning to explore Florence, we chose the Style Florence. Both the St. Regis and the Westin were out for my dates, so I chose the Style as it was selling at ~HK$1,800, which is more than generous for a suite and looked pretty nice.

My stay at The Style Florence

Expecting a more modern hotel than the Villa Franceschi, we departed Venice (or rather, Mira) in the late afternoon.

While the Style Florence isn’t a hotel you’d expect to have a glamorous entrance, I’ll still say this is the most hidden hotel entrance I’ve seen. I almost missed it. Did Hans Brinker help the hotel design the entrance? I kid…

My beef with the lack of all villa chain hotels…

I shared my unhappiness when the Westin Ubud hotel plan was unrolled, since it wasn’t an all villa hotel.

Here’s my love for all villa hotels. In non-all villa hotels (take, for example, the Le Meridien Khao Lak), villas are more expensive and the resort is usually pretty crowded (unless it’s a suite-villa property, in which case villa prices are always through the roof).

Our landing on Italian soil paired up with the most abysmal weather I’ve seen in a while. No, this wasn’t Hong Kong on March 30th, 2013, but all plans to sightsee in Milan were thwarted. (We still went sightseeing though, though the weather wasn’t nearly as nice as we hoped.)

We went through the abysmal weather to Venice, a sub-three hour drive, and the weather cleared up. Even though it was 11:30am when we left the airport, given that we stopped by for lunch and left after two the sun was setting as we arrived the Villa Franceschi. It’s worth noting that the hotel is not in Venice, but in an adjacent town called Mira, which is equally charming, consists of the same water network (as opposed to loads and loads of roads) and actually less crowded.

The exterior of the hotel is quaint without looking considerably dated.

While the exterior look charming, the lobby is definitely past its prime. However there was something to it that felt magical. (Probably ghosts lurking in the area? I kid.) It was definitely a really comfortable place to relax, though, and the dated seating was as plush as ever (though my mother’s back may think otherwise).

Some pictures of Okinawa (none of the Renaissance, unfortunately)

I just stashed out a handful of pictures from my 2012 Okinawa trip, however only six of them don’t have faces in them. I decided I’d stash them out to you, so you consider Okinawa for one of your future destinations. (However I’ve expressed enough negative opinions about the Renaissance, so to rehash it, it’s a “no go”.)

Loud sex in a Hong Kong hotel?

I’m yet again staying at the Sheraton Hong Kong, which I reviewed last time. There was a promotional fare of HK$580 which I was offered from a travel agent and I jumped on it, and points can still be accrued, so it’s a nice bet (even if it’s just mattress running), given how good the hotel is.

Just now I left my hotel room for a night stroll out in Hong Kong (even though I live here, I have had only a few chances to stroll through). I walked past room 1014, and I heard a loud noise.

It’s definitely not the kind I prefer to hear, either.
